Audiobooks On Spotify: How to Find, step-by-step

Spotify-Featured-Image

Spotify has become essential for music lovers, but it also has much more to offer beyond good songs. In this application you can stream audiobooks, radionovelas, language lessons, famous speeches and much more, completely free. Also, Spotify has become the best known music platform.

If you like to listen to your literary novels, Spotify pleases you. You will not find new books, of course, but there is a large selection of classics that will make you up to date with those masterpieces of literature on which they are based and inspire all the new books that you like.

Important: Check our Spotify Audiobooks List

Today, we’re going to show you how easy it is to enjoy our audiobooks on Spotify. I do not think you need to remember what Spotify is, the most important service to date in the world of streaming audio, which includes music and, of course, audiobooks.

For example, you can basically listen to all of William Shakespeare’s plays, including tragedies such as Hamlet and Julius Caesar or historical dramas such as Henry V and Richard III. You can also listen to the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and tenebrous works like The Shadow of Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft. Of course, unfortunately most of these are in English, but there are many classics available in Spanish.

Classic books such as ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Hamlet’, ‘The Secret Garden’ or ‘Pride and Prejudice’ are on one of the lists made by the platform itself (in this link). Lessons to learn Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, German, etc., also have their place. There are even classic fairy tales or about Greek and Roman mythology, famous speeches (Luther King or presidents of the USA, for example), meditation and self-help guides (how to control stress) and a long list of resources.

It’s also worth mentioning that the free version of Spotify only allows you to listen to songs randomly on your mobile, so it might not be a good idea to listen to audiobooks from your smartphone unless you have a Spotify Premium account.

What I do think is interesting is to review some figures: Spotify has more than 60 million active users, of which more than 15 million are premium users, that is, they pay a monthly fee for access without advertising and also allows them to Enjoy your favorite songs or audiobooks when they are not connected, especially when using mobile applications.

To enjoy audiobooks on Spotify is the same as you have a premium or free account, although you know that in the first case you will not be interrupted in your listening with advertising between chapter and chapter, and also if you use any of the mobile apps of Spotify you can continue listening to the chapter you were in or advance in new chapters even if you run out of coverage (because you go through a tunnel or you’re on a plane or travel in the suburban).

Of course to listen to audiobooks you can use both desktop applications for Windows and Mac and apps for mobile or tablets with Android, iOS (Apple) or Windows. And besides, and this is one of the most used by me, you can access them using the web player that works with all the most common browsers.

One last check before the step-by-step explanation of what you should do begins: all screenshots come from the free desktop version of Spotify. This is because the free version of the Spotify application does not allow you to choose and listen to specific audios on your phone.

Instead, mix the tracks in a playlist or album. This is fine with music, but it is completely impossible when you want to listen to a book from start to finish. Some steps are:

Basic search

Spotify - Search
Spotify – Search

I think the best place to start looking for audiobooks is in the playlists. So go ahead and write “audiobooks” in the search bar at the top of your Spotify screen. I know that the main result looks promising, but go to the tab “songs”.

You will see immediately, from the main result, that Spotify has its own playlist of audiobooks. It’s fine, but it’s not terribly useful if you have something specific in mind. It’s just kind of a big audiobook list. So, what I want you to do is go through the page, pass the superior result and pass the “Songs” until you see “Artists” and “Albums” and “Playlists”.

This is where the real search results are. By selecting your favorite audio book and the link from it to Spotify you can enjoy it directly.

First of all — check official Audiobooks Playlists by Spotify.

Also, there are many playlists of audiobooks, many of which are maintained by individuals who have very specific tastes. Otherwise, scroll and find some that are similar to what you are looking for. See who published them, or who the artist is. Click on the artist the possibilities are that they will have more audiobooks on their own page.

See the artists

Some audiobook narrators have artist pages. Some artists are simply sites that publish many audiobooks. And then there are current author names used as artists-H.G. Wells, for example, or Virginia Woolf: the good thing about artist pages for authors is that all their audiobooks appear on those pages, and that other author pages are suggested in the sidebar.

You can look and select the Albums and you can select “View all”. Once on the list of Albums you can now select any of them, or those corresponding to our audiobooks or those we have created so you can listen not only to our audiobooks but others that are on Spotify that we think you may like and the occasional curious gift.

This method is not infallible. Not all your favorite authors have artist pages, or if they are, there are only a few books available. And sometimes, because these audiobooks are uploaded by individuals and not by publishers, they are not in English.

Good. So you’ve found a playlist that you like and an audiobook that you like. But all the playlists almost list the first chapter of each audiobook. So how do you listen to a whole book? Find the audiobook that you like. Then look to the right of the title. You will see three small points. Click on the points. A pop-up menu will appear. You want to find Go to album. Click on that and it will take you to the full audiobook, which is technically an album on Spotify.

And you’re ready, you can enjoy the audiobook!
